U.S. importers are about to face some of the most significant customs changes in years. Starting in August 2025:
• Brazil Tariffs: Many Brazilian imports will now face a 40% additional tariff (up to 50% total in some cases) effective August 6, 2025. While some products like civil aircraft, certain energy goods, and select agricultural products are exempt, most goods will see higher costs.
• De Minimis Disappears: Effective August 29, 2025, the duty-free threshold for low-value shipments (<$800) will be eliminated for all countries. Every import—even small parcels—will require full duty payment and customs entry.
• Section 232 Copper Tariffs: Effective August 1, 2025, select semi-finished copper and copper derivative products from all origins will face an added 50% tariff, with a few specific exclusions (full list pending).
